kinglake adventure camp

today soumitri related our camp to an ice breaker. i personally think that that camp was close to useless, and i can think of much better ways to break the ice between the students, and be more productive (in terms of learning - not in terms of product). it was a real waste of time for me, and money too, i guess.
i'm not saying a camp can't help, its just that the format was badly done - in my opinion.
i think its our resposibility to put forward changes to be made to the camp to make it more fun, productive, and perhaps succinct? what do other people think?

You may be right about your experience. But I was being cryptic.

So here goes - the Camp exists because corporations want this kind of place to do various things. Among them is the ice breaker. But that is what the organsiers do - we didn't use them to conduct sessions. Except for the ropes, leap etc.

That is what I meant - that the knowledge about ice breakers etc exists with the management types.

personally i thought the camp was great in that it gave us a space to meet everyone in our course on a different level that we would have by simply atending classes with them. By forming friendships on camp before we got stuck into any real work in studio, it made it alot easier to work in a group situation and to present work and ideas to the class. But i spos with style of this course that probably would have happened any way, only not a quickly

ok, soumitri, i can safely say the management (or staff at king lake) were effective in their team building and ice breaking through the challenges they set us. however, the activities we went through with mick, and the others (especially the cane structures) seemed like a lot of time and effort for something which seemed silly and trivial. i was so sick of the cane structures by 2 hours into it. we werent ready to let ourselves into your hands with such a strange experiment, to let ourselves go, to think freely.
we needed more basic, quick games to get us involved and make us interested in the program. i think i would have been much more certain in the course had we had more direction from day one - at the camp, say.
i had o-week at college, and though this is very different to the experience of university, they had similar aims, of get-to know you and team building. perhaps we could have beach days, nights out, early mornings, and more contact with older people in the course. i have lots of suggestions.
i would liek to put them forward in the community meeting, and also the idea of a melbourne design events notice board, but unfortunately, i have been roped into working. i might write a proposal for it, soon after this essay for studies is due.

Liam has been talking about camps too. do talk to him. Re your doing the games at camp. its a great idea.

But first we need to copyright your games. If only for us to take them seriously as a breakthrough.

i would like to write some ice breakers, and add them in.
copyrighting sounds like a big move - does it involve much?
